Laurie Wiid van Heerden won the BRAVE Award in 2017 for his studio’s consistent and ongoing support for the Rock Girl and BRAVE Campaigns.
Wiid Design has donated more than 9 benches in the past 6 years. These benches are installed in and around the City of Cape Town and provide safe spaces for women and children; Wiid Design is, therefore, a proud supporter of the Brave and Rock Girl Campaign.
Wiid Design in collaboration with renowned artist Lionel Smit also donated a unique hand-painted bench for the Brave auction held in 2016. The bench raised a massive R 320 000, 00.
BRAVE creates opportunities for girls, and works with those who can provide the resources, knowledge, experience, and safety that girls need to lead. BRAVE is girl-led, and uses the challenge of travel and adventure to empower girls from underserved communities to tell their own stories, acquire critical skills, and build networks to assist with education, health care, economic empowerment and safety.
BRAVE has changed the lives of over 500 girls. The campaign creates opportunities for girls to improve critical thinking skills, build camaraderie, and gain the confidence to become resilient, engaged, informed leaders.
Since the creation of the very first Rock Girl bench, we have worked on the principle that beautiful things can create social change.
